“I don’t know how you two managed to get through all those meetings without going crazy,” Danny said to Zach, Nora and Selene when they met later on in the evening.

“Oh, was it that bad?” Zach asked with a grin. “Or were they just arguing like normal?”

“They went around in circles for hours,” Danny said, rubbing his eyes. “A lot of people know that we have to strike out at Ragnarok if we want to have any chance of completing the campaign soon, but too many of them are scared of Yggdrasil.”

“Not that I can really blame them,” Selene shrugged. “The power of that thing is ridiculous.”

“But it’s limited, and we know that. They know it, the enemy knows it, but Ragnarok’s using the fear to make us hesitate at the worst time.”

“Is that really our concern though?”

“It will be if we can’t get a distraction,” Nora pointed out. “It’s going to be really difficult if Ragnarok can fully garrison Madison. If we can draw most of their troops out to the front lines that makes our attack a whole lot easier.”

And if the rest of the alliance launched their attack at the same time then both elements could support each other. Even if Ragnarok was able to respond in time they would have to chose between holding their front lines against a vicious assault, or defending the cannon they had sunk so much into. If they chose the former then Yggdrasil would probably be destroyed. If they chose the later then Hydra would probably slice through them in no time and would be at the gates of Madison in a short time.

“I’ll try to talk to some of the military council if I have time,” Zach said. “Make it apparent that we need the support, or this mission is probably going to fail.”

“Yeah, I already was on that,” Danny told him. “I’m not sure how much good it did, but more pressure couldn’t hurt either.”

“Do you really think that they’re going to leave us hanging?” Selene asked. “It seems like they’ve put a lot of time and effort into us. Too much for them to not go through with one of the more important parts of the plan.”

“I think they want to, but a lot of the rest of the alliance is intimidated by the Yggdrasil Cannon. They saw what it could do, and they know what Ragnarok will do to us if they get the advantage,” Danny said. “I think they’re just hesitating and trying to work up the courage to get into the fight.”

Nora frowned. “That’s unusual. Usually everyone is willing to be pretty aggressive. Within reason, of course.”

“Yeah, but those times the enemy wasn’t pointing a gigantic superweapon at us.”

“They’re going to have to get over it eventually,” Selene shrugged. “Might as well be sooner than later.”

Danny grinned. “Oh, I’m sure that they’d love to have it put that way to them.”

“Eh, if they can’t take it then who cares?”

“Let’s not start another argument in the alliance,” Zach said.
